2016 Events along Lake Superior villages – Ashland to Bayfield to Superior Wisconsin
In the beginning and middle of July there are several events going on. Ashland, Duluth, Bayfield, and Madeline Island will have Independence Day Fireworks on the lakeshore on the actual 4th of July. Cornucopia’s Community Club Fish Fry is Sunday, July 3rd. The Ashland Bay Days Festival is July 15 – 17th and that same weekend is the Bayfield Festival of the Arts. Then at the end of the month is Washburn’s Brownstone Summerfest (July 29 – 31). Throughout July Big Top Chautauqua’s performance schedule is in full swing with several big names plus performances by the Blue Canvas Orchestra.
In Superior the Head of the Lakes Fair is August 23 – 27th. Cornucopia Day is Saturday August 13th. The big August event in Superior is the Lake Superior DragonBoat Races, held August 26 – 27th. Just over the bridge in Duluth is the Tall Ships Festival, August 18 – 21st, expected to draw more than 200,000 people. See our article & photos on the last Duluth Tall Ships Festival in 2013. In Bayfield, as in July, there is a full schedule of Big Top Chautauqua events. While there are no other big events scheduled for Bayfield during August, there are always things going on. It is a good time to go on an Apostle Islands tour, or take a tour of historic homes in Bayfield, and enjoy some of the dining and night spots in the area. August is a great time to take the ferry to Madeline Island for the day or a few more. Enjoy the nice sand swimming beaches, a bike ride around the Island, outdoor dining, the Madeline Island History Museum, or touring some of the historic homes and buildings.
Early September Events
The Apostle Islands Lighthouse Celebration begins August 30th and runs through Sept 17th. Ashland’s MuralFest and Car Show is September 10th. Superior’s Amsoil Northern Nationals stock car race is also that first weekend (Sept 30 – Oct 1st). In the Duluth-Superior Twin Ports, the increasing popular Duluth Street Drag Race & Car Show will be Sept 11 and 12th.
Later we’ll provide an update on later September and Fall events along Wisconsin’s Lake Superior shoreline. One fall event to put on your calendar now is the Bayfield Apple Festival, October 7 – 9th.
